Facts
Community Media Network Uganda (COMNETU) is a nationwide network of community radio stations in Uganda and registered as an NGO in 2015 under the Uganda Registration Service Bureau.
We currently have 22 member radio stations producing community radio programmes broadcasted locally in all regions of Uganda.
Our office is located in Kampala city centre. You are most welcome to contact us and discuss about partnership projects aiming to reach and empower rural communities locally or across Uganda.
Information is power
At COMNETU, we believe that “information is power” and that quality development information must be produced and widely distributed, especially in rural areas, to enable people to engage in positive social change.
- Our vision: A strong community media sector in Uganda contributing to social and economic development.
- Our mission: To promote community media to serve the developmental needs of communities in Uganda by providing access to relevant information, education and entertainment that can impart positive social change.
- Our strategic goal: To provide a platform for community media in Uganda to grow and progress and improve their operating environment.
Coverage
The radio operations of our member radio stations currently cover about 50% of the area of Uganda and reach a listenership of millions of people across the country.
Many of the covered areas are not reached by the mainstream media.
We are currently developing a community radio online platform that will allow rural radio stations to publish their local news stories and live stream their programmes online.
Partners
COMNETU wishes to develop partnerships and working relations with development agencies, government institutions, civil society organisations and commercial actors willing to reach rural radio stations and rural communities in different parts of Uganda by information campaigns, sponsored programmes, or paid advertisements.
Our current and previous partners include Vikes – Finnish Foundation for Media and Development, World Association of Christian Communication (WACC), UNESCO, Farm Radio, and the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA), among others.
