In order to end challenges young girls experience during menstruation periods, school managements have been asked to set aside independent care rooms for girls to use when they are in their menstruation periods.
Many girls find challenges such as stigma, poor performance in class, lack of information and are shy to let others know what they go through. This, in most cases, results so school dropout, loneliness and discrimination.
City Hill Nursery and Primary School found in Kikulu Zone, Kawempe Division, Kampala city in partnership with Rotary club of Kampala and Wandegeya has commissioned a care room to help young girls use it during menstruation periods. The Head Teacher Namutebi Rose said many girls find challenges like access to a convenient room or place when they want to change or wear their pads. She said the Care room has a matron, soap, changing rooms, sanitary pads, a bed, toilet paper, water and toilet. She adds that young girls have been using toilets and latrines which is risky because they are easily exposed to infections and also lack privacy.

Peter Lumala a resident of Kikulu Zone, also a proprietor of City Hill Nursery and Primary School called upon the community to support young girls and establish friendly zones for them during their menstruation periods.
While officiating the care room, The District Governor rotary club of Tanzania and Uganda, Mrs Young Kimaro said it’s unfortunate that up to date society are mostly focused on the boy child and yet young girls are the future caregivers.
